He was still the saint to made the national parks and was good for labor, not how he was openly white supremacist. We knew that Jackson was a bad person, but we didn't know that Teddy Roosevelt was a horrible person. We also didn't cover history from a Marxist perspective, we never even touched Marx. Was some of the scholarship lackluster and missing? Yes, we didn't cover things like Stonewall. Growing up in the south during the 90s, we covered the Trail of Tears, slavery, lynchings, labor, Japanese internment, the Holocaust and America's own antisemitism (7th and 8th grade lit was almost entirely about reading YA books on racism and antisemitism), COINTELPRO, United Fruit\*, radium girls, the Little Rock Nine, Freedom Riders, etc. There is this imagined world everyone has for what everyone else doesn't know. People on the left like to imagine the entire world they are are fighting is the 1950s and people on the right like to imagine that they are fighting the New Left in the 70s.
